SILENT T is a creative practice founded by Aminat Seriki ,grounded in a handcrafted multidisciplinary approach to materials, with a focus on concept, innovation, and craft. Working primarily with off-cut metals, aluminium, steel, and stainless steel materials are taken out of their original context and re-imagined as decorative, bespoke pieces. These materials are revived using traditional blacksmithing techniques including bending, forging, pressing, and polishing.
Blending elements of knitwear, exploring stretch and the tensions of stretch against metal to create sculptural restrictions on the human form. This approach is evident in works such as ‘Tomisina’ Armour Helmet, constructed from offcut steel rods and transformed into a helmet that explores negative space within armour. The helmet explores the potential of stretch in knitwear, combining elastic yarn with wire to generate volume and tension. The integration of steel rods introduces an architectural framework, transforming soft textile into a structured, sculptural form.
